The reason why I picked Liana to be my mentor is because I have worked with her at Fleisher Art Memorial, for the last few years and she has a lot of background with art. Over the years she has also been a really good mentor in general for me. I feel really comfortable around her and with her help with my Capstone I know she will and be willing to help me push it to the best that it can be. She also knows how to show me some things about Art that I haven’t really known or took much attention to. She is also able to reference some famous artist of the olden days, so that I can view their work and get some ideas on how to project the ideas I want with my illustration.

Some believe that the traditions of Hogmanay was brought to Scotland by the Vikings as early as the 9th and 8th century. It is always celebrated with extensive partying. Some of the symbolic pieces of Hogmanay are shortbread cookies, the cookies that were made for the month of January. Another symbol is whisky, but of course whisky is not permitted in school. It is traditional to have a firework ceremony for festivities. Today in the villages of Scotland those who celebrate Hogmanay some have bannocks (fruit buns) to put in their sack, while the go house to house spreading the positive happy energy for the new year.

The Hogmanay celebration last for two days, unlike the American New Year’s only lasting one day. January 2 to January 3rd and while those days are full of partying everything shuts down. There transportation does not run until all the “fun” has died down. This is a two day celebration so they are able to count their blessings over again for a second time. Scotland is in great love of their alliance with the French, because of that Hogmanay has also been traced back to the French monastic perambulations in relation to celebration for the birth of Christ. This source is being used to help show how important it is to be very festive within my drawing showing that different aspect of the holiday.
